I was charge with Art Directing and aiding in the production of 3 iconic Star Wars vehicles for Fortnite - Galactic Battle. With a team of 6 artists, we created the Millenium Falcon and Sandcrawler, as real scale vehicles for the map for players to explore. This assingment was a labour of love from the outset. We got to meet Lorn Peterson, who made the original vehicles by hand, early on in our production, which set an amazing precedent, triggered all kinds of nostalgia, and greatly inspired us to do his amazing work justic. I beleive we delviered some of our finest work ever on these amazing assets. I worked a lot on the Sandcrawler in particular, as well as establising some key functions in the principal shader that defined the look of the vehicles. Some of these functions included novel ways of getting macro variations accross large surfaces through world alligned textures, and mesh distance field based dirt and leaks functions.
